Daily Word: The True Vine – John 15:1-8

Welcome to today’s Daily Word. On this Wednesday of the 5th Week of Easter, Jesus uses a powerful image from nature to explain our relationship with Him. He is the Vine, and we are the branches. Without Him, we can do nothing.

The Holy Gospel (John 15:1-8)

“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and every one that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit... Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.’”

Reflection: Remaining in the Love of Christ

In this Daily Word for May 6, we are invited to reflect on the word "Remain." In our busy lives, especially in the vibrant communities of the Philippines, it is easy to get distracted. But Jesus reminds us that our spiritual strength comes only from being connected to Him through prayer, the Sacraments, and the Word of God.

Pruning can be painful—it represents the challenges and sacrifices we face—but the Vine Grower (the Father) does it so we can grow stronger. To bear fruit is to live a life of love, service, and joy. When we remain in Jesus, our lives become a beautiful testimony of His presence.

Spiritual Exercise for Today

• The Action: Identify one "dead branch" in your life (a bad habit or a grudge) and ask the Father to prune it so you can grow.

• The Prayer: "Jesus, You are the True Vine. Keep me always connected to You. May my life bear much fruit for the glory of the Father. Amen."
