Daily Word: My Peace I Give to You – John 14:27-31a
Welcome to today’s Daily Word. On this Tuesday of the 5th Week of Easter, Jesus speaks to us about a gift that the world desperately needs but cannot provide: True Peace. Even as He prepares for His Passion, His concern is to comfort our hearts.
The Holy Gospel (John 14:27-31a)
“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, “I am going away and I will come back to you.” If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father...’”
Reflection: A Peace That Surpasses Understanding
In this Daily Word for May 5, Jesus distinguishes between "worldly peace" (which is often just the absence of conflict) and "His peace" (which is a state of the soul even in the midst of storms). For our brothers and sisters in the Philippines, who often face natural and life challenges, this promise is a rock to stand on.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled." These are not just words; it is a divine command. When we remain connected to Christ, the fear of the future or the anxieties of the present lose their power. Jesus is going to the Father to prepare our place and to send the Holy Spirit. We are never alone.
Spiritual Exercise for Today
The Action: Take 5 minutes of silence today. Breathe in deeply and repeat: "Jesus, I trust in Your peace." Let go of one specific worry.
The Prayer: "Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of Your peace. When my heart is troubled, remind me that You have already conquered the world. Amen."
