Daily Word: No Greater Love – John 15:12-17

(Introdução) Welcome to today’s Daily Word on this Friday of the 5th Week of Easter. Today, Jesus gives us the most beautiful definition of our relationship with Him. He doesn't just call us followers; He calls us friends. Let us dive into this message of love and mission.

The Holy Gospel (John 15:12-17)

“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves... I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain...’”

Reflection: Chosen to be Friends

In this Daily Word for May 8, we are reminded of a powerful truth: You were chosen. Before you decided to follow Jesus, He already had His eyes on you. In our community in the Philippines, we value deep friendship and family loyalty; Jesus takes these values and elevates them to a divine level.

To be a "friend of Jesus" means transparency and sacrifice. He told us everything the Father revealed. In return, He asks us to love one another with the same radical love He showed on the Cross. This isn't just an emotion; it is a mission to "bear fruit that will remain." Every act of kindness and every prayer offered is a fruit of this divine friendship.

Spiritual Exercise for Today

  • The Action: Reach out to a friend or family member today and share a word of encouragement. Be the "friend of Christ" in their life.

  • The Prayer: "Lord Jesus, thank You for choosing me. Help me to live up to the gift of Your friendship by loving others without limits. May my life bear fruit for Your Kingdom. Amen."
